Nestled in Darchik village on the Southern foothills of the Ladakh range, amidst a landscape adorned by river Indus and Setluj alike, is the Brokpa community. Rooted in a lineage of Indo-Aryans, who are traced back to the direct descendants of Alexander The Great’s army men in 326 BC, the Brokpas have appealing features- long aquiline noses, almond-shaped blue eyes, strong cheekbones on a weather-torn skin- and superior intelligence. Isolated by the Ladakhi communities for their peculiarity, the Brokpas have long savoured the admiration received from elsewhere and for years used strong social sanctions and rules to keep their gene pool intact. This series is a documentation of the Brokpa community, also known as the Aryans of Darchik, in Ladakh which is rooted in exploring the past and the present.
